Company Profile

History of Baird & Hayes

Baird and Hayes was formed in 1946 when Ken Baird returned from World War 2. Ken Baird and Keith Hayes developed the practice and built a reputation for technical excellence and dedicated professionalism as well as good old fashioned service. This tradition continues today in our motto of QUALITY, VALUE, SERVICE, and FRIENDLINESS.

Ken Baird was known to have taken on jobs throughout southern and western Queensland, sometimes mounted on camels where conditions were too rough for a truck. Keith Hayes commenced work with Ken Baird in the 1950's, and become the principal in the 1970's.

Peter Henry was the third surveyor to become a director, taking over the business after Keith Hayes retired. The business has recently expanded its services further by welcoming Beth Clark as a partner and manager of the town planning division of the business.

Our Service Area

We focus on servicing the western development corridor from Brisbane to Toowoomba, which takes in Ipswich City Council, the Scenic Rim, Lockyer Valley and Somerset Regional Councils.

We also undertake work in other areas of Queensland in particular instances.

Our Ability to Respond

Because we are a small firm, we are able to provide a fast turnaround for documentation and communication between the client and the nominated project manager or responsible staff member. We can provide a fee proposal within 1-3 days depending on the scope of the work. Planning reports can be prepared within a 2 week timeframe if all supporting information is available.

Our Clients

Our clients range from investment and development companies to individuals or family trusts who wish to develop land or residential, commercial or industrial building projects. We service clients involved in land development and mining industries and various types of rural industries such as quarries and batching plants. A large percentage of our business is associated with locally based private land owners, investors and companies. We therefore understand the importance of limiting project costs and managing approvals within the statutory IDAS timeframes.

Our Capacity

As a small firm we offer a personalised service and quick turnaround for your project enquiries, surveying and planning needs. We work closely with a variety of other consultancy firms to obtain specialised engineering, environmental and architectural expertise.

Our Location

The company moved to the existing premises at 77 Roderick Street in Ipswich after a fire destroyed part of the downtown office building known as Trustee Chambers in 1993. Surveyors, planners, administrative and support staff are all located in the one office and this assists greatly in delivering a seamless operation between these various functions.

Our Quality Assurance

We follow the standard QA procedures developed by Baird and Hayes Surveying for checking and final reviewing of all documentation before it leaves our office. All projects are reviewed on a weekly basis to check progress of applications and to ensure that no unnecessary delays are encountered.
